Start NOW for January Review Period!
Every grant maker has different requirements and timetables for reviewing grants. Some foundations will accept applications on a rolling basis. Bust most review grants on a quarterly, annual or semi-annual basis. If you are considering submitting grant proposals you should be thinking about FY2013, and you need to start the process now!
January is the best time to submit your proposal because this is when most grantmakers have the most funding to give out. And with the state of the economy (greater need and fewer dollars to give) quite often they will use up their allocation in the first review period. For a January review you will typically need to have your grants submitted by Mid December. Keep in mind, it takes 1-3 weeks to research potential grant makers and figure out which ones are willing to accept your proposal. Plan on 3-4 weeks to complete the grant proposal. There is no time to waste.
