Homeless Shelter Wins Capital Grant
I was thrilled to hear form one of my clients today — The Welcome House of South County — that they have just won another grant that I have written for them. This grant will help to renovate the top floor of the shelter to make an additional unit of family transitional housing, something that is sorely lacking in this part of Rhode Island. In the 30,000-person town of South Kingstown, where the Welcome House is located, there were 5 additional units (net) of affordable housing created in 2014. I find this statistic, which is all too common not just here but in many communities, very sad. It is so difficult these days for hard working families to find suitable housing at the prevailing wages. Glad I could help on this one!
