$767,604 NIH Grant for Rhode Island Hospital
Aaron helped a talented team of investigators to win a $767,604 grant through the NIH’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to study the effectiveness of Levels of Care for RI Emergency Departments and Hospitals for Treating Overdose and Opioid Use Disorder. Through this grant, investigators from RI’s largest health care system, Brown University’s School of Public Health, and RIDOH will be partnering to perform a hybrid implementation-effectiveness study that will: (1) refine and test an implementation strategy that aims to improve the fidelity of ED post-overdose care as it relates to the state’s Levels of Care policy, and (2) to test the effectiveness of policy-driven ED-based post-overdose care. The study will specifically target implementation of 4 ED metrics: naloxone received at discharge; receipt of peer recovery support services; ED referral to treatment; and initiation of MAT in the ED.
