$25k Job Training Grant for RI Biotech Co.
Rhode Island’s Governor Raimondo just announced winners of the state’s “Real Jobs RI” planning grant. My client, Claflin Medical Equipment, not only won a $25,000 planning grant, the reviewers were so impressed by our proposal they decided to host the press conference announcing all the winners at the company’s headquarters.

This planning grant is phase I. Phase II is developing a detailed plan to train 4-10 individuals/ year and place them in great paying jobs at local healthcare companies. Biomed Tech is a growth industry and these jobs can be filled by individuals without a 4-year degree. The problem is there are not enough qualified workers to fill these positions. In fact through a partnership with Year Up Rhode Island and CCRI we will be targeting 18-24 year old unemployed or underemployed high school graduates for this program. As part of the process they will learn a set of valuable skills that are in high demand by employers, earn a college degree and have a chance for a career that most of them never expected.
Over the next couple months our team will be working to develop this initiative and establish it as a model for other employer groups throughout RI and elsewhere.
