$43,000 For Energy Efficiency Program
For over 5 years the staff and volunteers of ImmigoLA have been serving immigrant communities in Los Angeles – primarily Latino/ Hispanic and in the San Fernando area. In the past year alone Immigo provided a range of educational and navigational services to over 10,000 individuals. Each month the organization fields approximately 600 calls from local residents inquiring about immigration and citizenship issues, their primary services. The majority of these individuals do not qualify to apply for legal status or citizenship, or to petition the federal government to sponsor a relative, and as a result, much of the community we work with is left undocumented. For these individuals ImmigoLA provides vital counsel about their rights and the immigration/ citizenship process,by phone and/ or email.
Aaron helped this tiny organization (unpaid staff of 1) win their first grant, which will enable them to provide education/ outreach services to educate people in their community about energy efficiency programs offered through the LA Department of Public Works. This is a great example of an amazing, grassroots organization getting the help they need to direct needed services to an under-served population who deserve to benefit from energy savings as much as anyone else. Congrats!
