Agency Wins Huge State Healthcare ‘Contract’
Aaron was instrumental in helping a home healthcare agency in NYC to win approval as a “Lead Fiscal Intermediary (FI)” by the New York State Department of Health. FI refers to an organization that provides administrative support for consumers who utilize the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP). CDPAP allows people who are in need of home-based supports (like personal care assistants (PCA) and/ or home health aides (HHA)) to hire a person of their own choosing (i.e. family member of close friend). The role of the FI is to ensure that the PCAs and HHAs are properly supervised and paid, removing that burden from the consumer. Until recently there were hundreds – perhaps over 1,000 – FIs across the state. In an effort to consolidate, NYS established a new framework whereby 60-70 “lead” FIs would assume the responsibilities previously decentralized among the 1000+ previous FIs. The 900+ FIs that were not selected as Lead FIs must now align with a Lead FI. Out of over 400 applicants who sought Lead FI status, only 60-70 were approved and only 26 were selected to provide services statewide (including Aaron’s client).
The result: this client will gain tremendous new opportunities – both in serving CDPAP clients as well as by leveraging this new status as a means to offer improved/ more efficient services to its managed long-term care organizational clients. This single contract will result in an estimated $32 million in revenue per year for this agency. Yes, you read that correctly. $32 MILLION per YEAR.
