For the second consecutive year the Rhode Island Foundation granted the Gary Balletto Foundation a substantial grant to help get this unique and impactful gym operational and on its way to sustainability. Over the past couple of years Gary, his team and I raised over $100,000 to purchase adaptive gym equipment and the Cranston YMCA set-aside space in their fully-able-bodied gym to create this new facility for people living with some form of paralysis. This year’s grant is being used to add, on a contract basis, neurological fitness specialist to the team. This adds tremendous value to the user experience by providing consumers with expert guidance as they learn to use the equipment to achieve their personal fitness goals. This is the only gym of its kind in Rhode Island and the only affordable adaptive gym that we know of in New England.
